Confession: I love going on trips but I hate the actual
process of getting there. I get motion sickness and I so both car and air
travel makes me sick and I hate wasting a day traveling. But I do it anyway
because the destination always seems to be worth it. This week I’m traveling
for work so I didn’t really have much of a choice but hey, I made it! For
business or pleasure summer time is always a popular time to travel and I’ve
been on enough trips that I have my packing routine pretty well down so today
I’m sharing some of my travel essentials.

I’m not one of those people that prides themselves on
packing for a week in a carry on so I tend to check my bag with all my clothes,
shoes and whatnot and bring a generous sized tote as my carry on. I hate the
idea of getting somewhere and thinking oh shoot, I left the perfect outfit for
this at home so I tend to bring more outfits than there are days in the trip to
give myself options. I think this one is pretty obvious but my valuables always
come with me on my carry on – and I prefer to wear my nice jewelry instead of
pack it but sometimes a trip warrants more nice pieces than I can wear at once.
– this goes for passports and car keys as well. But beyond these general things
here are my travel must haves:

Waiting for my most recent flight with my Vera Bradley overnight bag.
Comfortable shoes
In general I’m not a fan of dressing down for travel – the
most casual I’ll go is jeans, a stylish top and cute shoes but sometimes I’ll dress
up even more. I used to wear heels when I traveled to complete the stylish look
but I’m a little older and wiser for that foolishness, Airports are big y’all
and usually require a lot of walking – and sometimes you have to hustle to make
your connecting flight, I just don’t think heels are meant for this. For this
trip I wear my croc loafers – they offer nice support, can be easily cleaned just
in case some turbulence cause a drink to be spilled on me and they really don’t
look bad

Yoga Toes
OMG, I LOVE my yoga toes. Shaun finds them incredibly
painful and I know a lot of people cannot make themselves get accustomed to
them but I personally think they are the best thing ever. Even with comfy shoes
my feet still ache at the end of the day – and when I’m traveling for fun I
tend to be more active than I am at home and I find that wearing these at night
can re-set my feet and have them feeling fresh and new in the morning. The
product says to wear no more than an hour but sometimes I can fall asleep in
them – if it’s my off brand pair I can wear them all night but with the actual
yoga toes the stretch is just a little too much and I tend to kick them off in
the middle of the night.

Scarf / Cardigan
lanes tend to get cold and I’m just a big fan of being
prepared for things to be hotter or cooler than you expected. I love a good
cashmere / silk bend scarf because I can wear it as a wrap if I’m cool, oruse
it to dress up one of my clothing items. A cardigan can do the same but tend to
be a little bulkier so If I don’t have room for both I’ll go with the scarf.

Face Mask
The air on planes is terrible for your skin – so drying and
I find that changing climate in general tends to wreak havoc on my skincare. I
hate taking 3 weeks for my skin to recover from a one week trip so lately I try
to be more proactive and do a moisturizing face mask the night I land and as
needed on the trip.

Magazines/ a Book
Sometimes the flight is too short and I don’t need them but
this is something that is overpriced in the airport so I’d rather bring and not
use than just stuck waiting around and wind up buying. The longer the flight
the more likely I am to need reading material. I also tend to be a beach /
poolside reader anyways. My favorite magazines are Southern Living, Southern
Lady, and Vanity Fair. Currently I am reading the Curated Closet as my book of
choice.

Everyone of course has their own list of necessities but I
find bringing along these few items really makes a difference and makes traveling
a much more enjoyable experience. Happy travels y’all!
