Hello 2018! I’m getting a slow start to the year since the first week of the month is always my busiest at my day job but before I getting fully into 2018 I’m sharing the best of 2017 today. Last year I placed a strong emphasis on refocusing my wardrobe and I’m pretty pleased how the year went. Next week I’ll be sharing my list of classic pieces I plan on adding this year but I first wanted to share some of my favorite pieces from the past year because you’ll certainty see them this year. Some of my exact pieces are no longer available but I’m linking some very similar items in both straight and plus sizes in case you want to build your closet classic collection with me.

The whole closet makeover started when I realized that I was lacking a versatile black dress so that was a top priority for me, I soon realized though that a really need a cool weather and warm weather black dress. I wound up seeing a casual cotton swing dress last summer and it would up being perfect for a variety of occasions although admittedly not for dressy or professional attire occasions – perhaps one really does need several black dresses. Maybe my search for the perfect black dress continues but I really do like a simple black swing dress and at the price point it’s hard to argue against it.

If I had to list one item beyond the black dress that’s a closet must have it would be a Chambray shirt. It’s such a versatile style – comfortable yet with some structure – and it goes with pretty much anything. I actually prefer to wear my chambray top with skirts but I do love how they look with some black skinny pants and boots.

One purchase that took me by surprise last year was my yellow skirt. I wound up getting a ton of wear out of it and I love that it’s a classic shape in an unexpected color. I don’t see myself wearing this in the winter but one piece that can work for spring, summer and fall looks is pretty good in my opinion. Come warmer weather expect to see this back in my rotation.

Even though I wanted a black dress that I could wear to dressier events I decided that I wanted a non black dress that would be good for nice events but still not fussy and this the So Fancy City Chic dress fit the bill – in fact most of the product reviews online indicate like me most buyer wore this dress to a wedding.
City Chic is offered in size 12 and up but the style is available from multiple designers.

Finally, I added some lovely shirt dresses to my closet this year. These dresses are cool and comfortable and make great transition pieces from summer to fall. My dresses were custom made by Memphis designer Beg and Borrow but I’ve linked a few similar styles if you’re looking for an off the rack option.

So there you have it, my favorite pieces of 2017. I expect 2018 to be just as fashionable and just as fabulous and hope yours will be too!
