Little Black Dress Styling

Y”ALL! Oh my, I think I have finally found a pretty solid little black dress. Now I’ll admit I wish it was thicker cotton / higher quality but otherwise it’s just what I was looking for – sleeves, a-line waist and a knee length skirt with a little swing to it. I can layer it when it’s cold but it’s cool enough for when it’s warm.
To me, with the start of the new year January is a good time to get back to basics – a reset if you will. I tend to evaluate my undergarment situation and but new where needed , think about what needs to be replaced in my closet and what is missing but I also try to think about how a can work with what I have to make new outfits and this is where the LBD comes in – it’s so versatile so it’s a great way to start incorporating new pieces into your wardrobe or mixing up pieces you already own. As a shopaholic sometimes there’s something I REALLY want but it doesn’t go with a lot of things in my closet – this is why a black dress is my best friend, everything goes with a black dress and thus I can justify the purchase.

Right now in Memphis the weather has been so funky and unpredictable so layering has become my best friend and a black dress of course is the perfect layering piece. For a causal look I paired a black quilted vest and black boots. I can wear this at my office but it’s also a great casual and comfortable weekend look.

To still provide some warmth but also add a little more style I also paired the dress with my moto jacket and added leopard print heels to add a little sassy feminine touch.  My style is usually pretty feminine but this jacket allows me to change up my style without deviating too far from what I’m comfortable in. It’s enough coverage to be function in cooler weather but not heavy to the point that I can’t wear it indoors as part of the outfit.

For Christmas I received two Kendra Scott necklaces, and lucky for me they happen to coordinate together and I could layer so I wore with my black dress to let them really stand out. Since the stones are red I decided to pair with red shoes for an additional pop of color. Not only is this look simple and easy to put together but I can wear it anywhere – it’s work appropriate yet dressy enough for dinner at a nice place. For my look I started with red because that’s the color stone of the long necklace but you could make this work for any color.
