Last week Shaun and I had the opportunity to attend the preview for the Memphis location of Dave and Busters that is opening today. For Shaun it was fun to see the location in our home town but he was already familiar with the concept but for me it was first time to get the D&B experience.
If you’re ot familiar with D&B here’s the simplest way I can describe it -Chuck E Cheese for adults, minus the ball pit (which would be awesome, but I digress). For entertainment there are dozens of tv to watch sporting or other popular events – this would be a great Olympic games watching spot. There’s an extensive menu and lots of fun cocktails on the bar menu and the food was pretty yummy. But the main attraction of any D&B is the arcade – which has any game you could think of.
In the bar area all the Memphis teams are printed across the wall and in the dining area is a large wall filled with Memphis iconic images – personally I love when businesses embrace the city they are in – plus it makes each location unique and fun.
We started our visit by hitting the buffet which gave us the opportunity to try a wide variety of menu items – my personal favorite were the chicken and steak strips but the mini burgers were pretty good too.
We also got to sample some of the D&B signature cocktails – both the Strawberry Watermelon Margarita and the D&B TNTEA were really good and we’re looking forward to getting them again on our next visit.
After socializing with friends for a bit we hit up the arcade. We played on a fun boat simulator, tossed beanbags and ping pong balls, did a little shooting and of course we had to hit up the classic
skee ball. Pretty much if you want to play it they have it.
Game points are loaded onto cards and each game has a card reader that takes points to play the game and issues tickets for any games that pay out tickets. In the back of the arcade is a shop to spend tickets, we decided to save ours for the next visit instead of leave with a little trinket.
Overall we were really impressed with our visit – it was crowded but not uncomfortably so (we never had to wait more than a few minutes to play a game) , there was security on site and plenty of staff to meet everyone’s needs. I know there’s some concern with the location in Memphis but if you get off at the Appling exit you can avoid the Wolfchase traffic and because it’s not attached to the mall I don’t think you’ll have too many people just wandering around – there’s no cover to get in but there’s also nothing to do without spending money. Speaking of – there’s several meals that come with $10 game cards, I’d say it took us about an hour to spend that at the arcade. Now, Shaun is a bit of a game so I could see him running up a big game tab here but I also could see us popping in for a fun date night and only playing in the arcade for an hour. We both agreed we’re looking forward to returning and that this would be a fun place to meet up with friends or just go to do something a little different for date night.
