This holiday season there’s lots of gift guides talking about what to get for whom but I think during this time of year it’s so easy to caught up in the buying of gifts that we forget the reason we give gifts. Gift giving is one of five love languages – the others being physical touch, words of affirmation, acts of service, and quality time. Gift giving is my personal love language- for years I felt like that made me shallow but the reality is the gifts I have enjoyed the most have sometimes been the least extravagant and most thoughtful.
I personally HATE being asked what I want for a given holiday – to me giving someone a gift isn’t done out out obligation it’s because you want to make that person feel loved and special and what better way to do so than to put a little time and effort into finding something they will absolutely love. One of the most thoughtful gifts I ever received was after my mom passed away – a sweet friend sent me a delicate gold necklace with angel wings – I wore that necklace every single day for over a year. So when I started thinking about the types of gifts I could recommend this holiday season my mind drifted back to that incredibly thoughtful gift.
I don’t know your mom, or your sister or your BFF so it’s so hard for me to recommend something that would be perfect just for them but I think getting a delicate necklace can be versatile for anyone special in your life. When you think of your recipient think of their love language – the gift isn’t really about the actual item, it’s about the sentiment. If your recipient’s love language is quality time select a design that represents a special time you shared.
For example, if my Mom was still alive I would have gotten her this song lyric necklace with Bon Jovi lyrics on it not just because she loved Bon Jovi but because some of my fondest memories of us when I was a kid was riding around in the car listening to their cassettes. Every year I consider getting my sister a necklace with our Mom’s hand writing – or getting one for myself but if I’m being perfectly honest I’m not ready for that yet – but a custom quote or handwriting necklace is the perfect gesture for those who speak through words of affirmation. For those who speak through touch – wearing a necklace can represent that you are always with them as your gift literally touches them.
When looking for heartfelt necklace options Sincerely Silver Co kept coming up again and again in my searches. I came across this beautiful crescent moon necklace and decided it was the perfect “treat yourself” gift in celebration of my sorority’s Founder’s Day as our symbol is the crescent moon. I love how it’s delicate enough that I can wear it with other necklaces without looking silly but it’s also strong enough for everyday wear – I have tried bending the crescent just to see if I could and I just can’t do it!
Sincerely Silver Co has a nice variety of delicate designs like my crescent necklace or more custom options like a voice wavelength, location coordinates, home is wear the heart is state silhouettes, custom quotes and pieces that can be engraved from a handwriting sample. And of course, you wear a necklace right above your heart so it really is a great way to tell someone that they are always in yours.
