A few months ago I was scrolling
on instagram and I saw some posts about a place called The Hello Kitty Grand Café.
Now I had stopped by the Hello Kitty Café food truck when it rolled through
Memphis (check out my post on that here) but this looked to be taking the experience to the next level. After
digging into it I discovered that The Hello Kitty Grand Café was not far from
my in-law’s home in Southern California and lucky for me we had trip already
planned.
The Hello Kitty Grand Café operates with several functions – the front section of the location operates just like the food truck with a menu of sweets and drinks, anyone can walk in for counter service and there are a few tables in addition to some photo spots available. In the back is The Bow Room which offers a pre-fixe tea menu during the day and turns into a cocktail lounge in the evenings. Reservations are currently taken through Yelp and open up 30 days in advance- while weekend reservations can be hard to come by its a little easier during the week – they also take walk ups as they are able to accommodate. Hello Kitty and tea pretty much combines two of my lifelong favorite things so I made reservations for tea during the week – one important thing to note is reservations must be made in even numbers.

For our visit I wore a black blouse with red and pink flowers (hello kitty colors), my pink velvet skirt and the bow headband I had purchased at the food truck (because yes, I am a nerd). The Hello Kitty Grand Café has this headband in a sequin version currently.

The Bow Room was pretty much everything my pink instagram dreams were made of. The pre-fixe tea is $55 per person and includes strawberries and cream, scones, savory items and lots of sweets. The attention to detail is impeccable and there are so many Hello Kitty ties ins in every part of the process. When I talked about going several people laughed that I would be going to such an event without a child but while we were there one of ten tables had a child in the group. Shaun also got poked fun of for getting dragged along but there were five guys there during our visit – included Spiderman (to be fair it was Halloween). The food was not the best tea food we have ever had but it was much better than we expected, it was also the priciest tea we have even been to but I knew this going in and understand that part of the value is not in the food itself but in the experience and details.

After tea I changed into more
casual clothes because also on instagram I discovered that Sanrio has partnered
with a local farm with seasonal décor. We headed over to Tanaka Farms to see
the pumpkin patch, take a wagon ride, go through the corn maize and stop by the
petting zoo. This partnership is ongoing so the decorations change seasonally.
With Tea and Tanaka Farms we had
a super fun Hello Kitty filled day! If you are traveling to Southern California
anytime soon I definitely recommend stopping by both of these locations for a
fun filled day.
