I love a good sweater dress! I’m just naturally a dress person and this style is not only super comfortable but is a great way to continue to wear dresses during cooler weather. I also love sweater dresses because they are versatile and my goal is to focus on that in 2020.
Last year I found myself feeling like I always needed to share new outfits on my IG feed – even though that’s not how I dress nor is it how anyone I know dresses. However, I also featured several three way style posts and those were my favorite posts to write! I’m guilty of getting an outfit I love and repeating it over and over again , sometimes once a week during one season! But, writing these posts really challenged me to think of new ways to wear my favorite pieces and get more use out of other things in my closet – which is something I think we all should be doing!

I originally got this Jessica London sweater dress in red in December as I thought it would be perfect for the holiday season and I loved it so much I got it in the neutral maple brown. This sweater dress actually comes as a two piece set and I initially had no intention of wearing it with the matching cardigan but I was pleased to see that a gold belt and my favorite headband was all it took to make this a nice look I really love. I think this look is perfect for the office or church. It’s modest without being dowdy and provides a put together look without being stiff.

My intention with this dress was to mix it with other pieces in my closet. There’s something about the beginning of the year that has me focused on neutral staple pieces so I decided to go with on of my favorite staples for another office look. The black blazer and heels is perfect for a more formal environment white the black boots makes the outfit more fun but still professional. My office is casual so the boots is my preferred paring but I did want to share a visual of both.
Outfit: Black Blazer and Similar Boots
Although the first two looks are pretty conservative I do think a sweater dress is a great foundation to create a fun layered look. I keep the boots from my office look and swapped the blazer for the missoni print cardigan for a look that is perfect for work or the weekend. I choose to stick to the neutral color palette but you could use this styling to bring on pretty much any color. I added a thin belt over the cardigan to give some shape to the outfit which keeps the look from getting sloppy.
Finally I wanted a look just for the weekends and switched into a denim jacket and added my black hat. Because I am wearing the belt under the jacket with this look I went with a wider belt and decided to stick with the same color but this is another area where I think anything goes – I’m just utilizing what I already had.
Outfit: hat , belt , similar jacket
I’m really excited to have four new outfits with the addition of one dress to my wardrobe and I love that I was able to make dressy and casual outfits! I hope this has inspired you to mix up the pieces in your closet and look for items that can be worn multiple ways when you do make a purchase.
Do you have a favorite look in this post? I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments!
