Our family planning process has not gone as we hoped. We started trying to conceive around our 3rd wedding anniversary and while I wound up pregnant 10 months later we found ourselves going through pregnancy loss instead of planning for our baby.

After recovering from surgery we resumed trying to conceive and got our hopes up when I went weeks without a period only to find out that I skipped ovulating two cycles. Until 2020 I never had any reason to believe I had any fertility concerns – I had years of OBGYN visits with no issues and a regular cycle since 12. But now at 36 I found myself lost and stressing over what’s next.
Fertility testing can be very expensive, my dr’s office said it would be at least $500, so when I saw the at home fertility testing from Modern Fertility I was very excited. We could get answers and move on with the next steps in our family journey. Plus, who needs the hassle of going to the dr office when everything you need can be sent to your home.
My Modern Fertility kit arrived within a week of ordering and contained all the supplies needed to collect small blood sample at home and send it off to their lab. Because hormone levels fluctuate thorough out the month testing is done on the 3rd day of your cycle. While I waited I reviewed the instructions and online tutorial to gain comfort with the test.
About a week later it was time to collect my sample and send it in.

Collecting the sample only required a small finger prick, the process was easy and pretty painless. It did require a bit of patience and I personally had better luck with my second finger prick. Once I had enough of a sample the collection cards were set aside an hour to dry and then were placed in a special envelope to preserve the sample while it’s on transit. It’s important to mail your sample the day it is collected and mailer and postage label is included in the kit.
A few days after dropping off my samples at the post office I received an email confirmation that they were received by Modern Fertility and were being processed.
Modern Fertility looks at three main factors to give insight to fertility: Ovarian Reserve, Ovulation and General Wellness (specifically thyroid levels).
Two weeks after sending off my samples I received another alert – my results were ready.

Modern Fertility cannot predict the likelihood of conceiving right now – it only takes one egg and one sperm to meet up to become pregnant after all! But, it did give us the answers we wanted on our future outlook. We still plan on trying to conceive naturally since there’s no harm in trying but feel like we are also ready to move on with other plans.
I hope you found this post helpful if you are considering at home fertility testing. You can use my referral link to save $20 on your own test and I will earn some ovulation tests in return! I was provided my test for free in exchange for sharing on my Instagram account but I choose to also share the process here and my results to provide more insight on the process. All opinions are my own and genuine to my experience.
