What’s on the Agenda – Art Party

Last weekend was all about keeping it casual but this weekend will involve a little dressing up.

I’ve been a Young at Art member at The Dixon for over 10 years now and I have always enjoyed the membership. For $150 you get for two people – year long garden and gallery admission, tickets to the annual Fall and Spring events (Fall is Art on Tap and Spring is typically a themed cocktail party), Culture and Cocktail events throughout the year (these are casual after work opportunities to stop by grab a drink and see the exhibit) and discounts on programing through-out the year. This weekend will be the spring cocktail party and this year’s theme is Vintage Travel.

As soon as I got the invite I knew I had most of what I needed in my closet already and would just need to buy a few accessories to complete the outfit. This is the best part of keeping a lot of classic pieces in your closet – they are timeless and work for a variety of events.

I decided this event would be the perfect time to bring out my favorite skirt from 2017 for the first time this year – there’s nothing very wintery about yellow so it’s been patiently hanging in my closet waiting for spring. This exact skirt is sold out but there are several similar ones available.

Next, I decided to pair this skirt with a white button down top – because honestly, tell me a time since buttons were invented when this type of shirt wasn’t in style? I have several white button down (and I think every woman should) but I decided that the poplin version would be best to give structure and it’s a little more formal that other materials in a button down. Mine is several years old but because it’s a classic it’s offered every year so my exact shirt is available, it comes in several colors.

Finally, I decided my nude heels would be a great neutral, timeless shoe to add. I’ve had these for about 3 weeks and already worn them a lot!

Now, if you’re not heading to a vintage themed party you could add a statement necklace and maybe a cute clutch and go but since I am this is where I decided to add pieces to make my outfit have that vintage look. Even though spring is slowly starting to arrive we’re still getting cold weather so I feel like I was still wear my vintage mink stole. I know a lot of people have objections to fur and this isn’t the time or place but vintage pieces allows one to wear fur without furthering demand for new pieces. Plus, it’s amazing how well things that are made well will last!

For jewelry I went with pearl stud earring and a pear necklace – two things I also think every woman needs and decided to carry my LV purse because the brand has been around forever and the style has a vintage feel. Sadly, the exact style of my bag is not longer available. I don’t think any of these three things will go out of style!

Finally, I purchased two additional accessories to complete the look! A pair of white gloves and a small pillbox hat. Both of these are from Amazon so you still have time to order with Prime in time for the party.

And now we have a complete vintage look!

Later this month I will do another post showing y’all the current exhibit but for now I’m excited to have some fun and see some pretty art this weekend. Hope to see you there!
