Cooking is a great way to care for others. Years ago when my mom was recovering from surgery several of her friends brought us casseroles and it meant so much. In my experience when you are supporting someone else through recovery you are still having to keep up with all your own responsibilities. Taking away worrying about what’s for dinner is a easy way to pitch in and help so I try to take a dish when someone has a baby or has a sick loved one. Sure, you can just go run through the drive thru or order from door dish but there’s just something comforting about a home made meal.
I like to stick to easy casseroles because they can be in the fridge for several days or be frozen for later. While these casseroles can stand on their own I will round out the meal with sides. I highly recommend using disposable dishes. Don’t add the responsibility of keeping up with your dish to someone’s plate.
Here are my top three take them a meal go tos. Each one bakes at 350 for 35 minutes. These dishes all feed a family of four at least once and make good leftovers too!
I typically include cooked rice and a pan of broccoli tossed with olive oil, salt, pepper and garlic powder.
I typically include garlic bread and a salad kit.
Don’t forget to tape a note identifying the dish with baking instructions! My preference is to drop on the front porch and send a text letting the recipient know it is there. If someone is going through a take them a meal situation I don’t like to impose with socializing.
I hope this post has helped you come up with an easy way to lend a hand to your loved ones. Happy making and taking!
