While I’m waiting for my feet to peel, my lashes to grow and trying out perfumes I decided to get a makeover for a holiday party over the weekend.
Custom makeovers at Sephora are complimentary to Rouge VIB members or any customer making a $50 minimum purchase. Appointments are booked online and you purchase a $50 gift card when checking into the store, which actually you don’t even have to use that day or you can purchase in advance. Technically you could buy a gift card once and then wave it around for future makeovers but I guess eventually they would catch onto you. Anyways, they make a big freaking deal about having the gift card – I received an online gift card once and the store associates not only couldn’t use it but they were nasty to me about not having the gift card even though I did they just didn’t know how online ones work. Note to Sephora – I didn’t buy the $150+ in makeup used on me that day and made the bare minimum purchase. But, my recent experience was at a different store (Saddle Creek in Germantown, TN) and I had no issues.
Appointments are supposed to last 45 minutes but in my experience they always last longer. The makeovers are done at The Beauty Studio in the middle of the store so if you’re really shy and don’t want people watching you get your makeup done this probably isn’t for you. After meeting your beauty advisor you’ll briefly chat about the look you are wanting and if there are any concerns you want to address or products you want to try. For my appointment I wanted a glam party look and wanted to try the too faced lip injection.
The Beauty Studio
After our chat my advisor went and pulled product for my makeover. She cleansed, toned and moisturizer my face and then it was time for the makeup! Mostly I like getting the makeover because it looks better than I could do at home but it’s also a great way to try out new products and step out of your comfort zone. One thing I really like is while they will tell you what they are using the advisors aren’t overly salesy – if they were it would get annoying fast.
For my makeover the advisor used an airbrush foundation, which was new for me, contour, concealer, eyebrow filler, multiple eye shadows, blush, eyeliner, mascara, false lashes, lip liner, lip plumper and lip gloss.
Mid makeover
I was really happy with my final look and left with the lip plumper and lashes (you have to pay for the lashes if you want them as part of your makeover) and still have $15 on my gift card. I forgot my play pass at home so I need to go back and make another purchase.
If you know you’re going to be buying product anyway I think the custom makeover is a great way to get bang for your buck at Sephora. Now that a store has opened closer to my house and has really nice associates I’ll for sure be doing this again in 2017.
