A few weeks ago I was at an event
and a friend was wearing the most lovely tassel necklace. I don’t know why but
I am pretty much a sucker for tassel anything so obviously I was interested and
she was kind enough to inform me that it was from the Kendra Scott color bar. I’ll
admit, when it first hit the scene I thought the concept was ridiculous –
costume jewelry earrings for $60 . . . no thanks. But the reality is that there
are plenty of brand that sell costume jewelry at this price point such as Kate
Spade and Stella and Dot and while they are not something I purchase every week
I do purchase them and have been pleased with the quality and versatility of
the pieces. Plus let’s face it, I like pretty things. Needing a gift for my
mother in law seemed like the perfect reason to stop in and check out the recently
opened Kendra Scott store just a few miles from my home.

The store was very bright and
everything displayed nicely, and there was plenty of friendly staff on hand to
offer assistance but mostly we were left to our own devices to have fun
exploring the products and trying on pieces. In the back of the store is an area known as The Color Bar.

Kendra Scott jewelry has a very simplistic look. Most pieces consist of a colored stone in a metal setting. Although there are several different setting designs the signature look is a long oval stone.
The Kendra Scott look:
While already made pieces are on display and available to try on around the store the color bar allows customers to choose a setting / stone combo. There are iPads to use or books for the less tech savvy. Also, they had wine and cupcakes – yes!
Step on is to pick the base, this was easy because I already knew I wanted the tassel necklace but there areutilple types of necklaces, rings, earrings and bracelets available. The second step was too choose a metal; Kendra Scott offers four types – gold, silver, rose gold or gunmetal. I was torn between gold or rose gold.
Next, it’s time to pick the stone – which is the difficult part because there is a lot to choose from and they are all so pretty. I narrowed down my selections to
Mother of Pearl or Chaledony; one thing I really appreciated is that they gave me several of each stone to choose from so I could pick the one with the coloring that appealed to me the most.
Once my selections were complete it was time for the associate to put it all together. One word of caution – color bar purchases are final sale.
For the gift there was actually an item in store that I deemed to be just right so my necklace was the only color bar purchase of the day. Both were boxed up with bows and bagged – this bag would make a nice gift bag for sure. Hint to the guys, especially mine- this means no gift wrapping for you.
Each piece comes with its own store bag, which is cute and of nice quality. This stuff is definitely way nicer than typical costume jewelry and is nicely presented as a gift; I hope my mother in law likes the item we got for her birthday.
