If you wear a size 12+ unless you aren’t on social media you’ve probably heard that Lane Bryant has launched a 20 piece collaboration with blogger Girl With Curves. With items selling out online on the launch day I knew I had to hurry up if I wanted to see things in store and try them on.
The in-store display at the Southaven, MS location
The fitting room lighting was not great and while I’m not a fan of the mirror selfies sometimes you’ve got to work with what you have and I do want to be able to show you how these items fit. But, please don’t judge my poor photo quality too much.
The item I wanted the most – like every other curvy girl apparently was the navy blue trench dress and this sold out online and was not in my local store. But, I was able to try on the other items I was most interested in.
The pleated lace black dress had a nice fit and I like how instead of a plain elastic waist it had a faux belt look. I think this dress would look waaaaay better styled on the street with some killer heels and a nice bag , it’s $100 and unfortunately just didn’t fill a need in my wardrobe so I passed for the time being. I am wearing my regular size 22
I sized down to an 18/20 in the graphic tee because it looked to have a loose fit and I wanted to try it tucked in – It was cute but I just didn’t need it so I passed but if I was to get it I would have gotten my regular size as the size down did have a slight pull across the chest with the lettering. The pleated asymmetrical skirt is cute but has too much white for fall IMO. I’m a little old fashioned with my rules though so this isn’t a concern for most people and I did like the fit.
I’m wearing my regular size in the sweater which I honestly felt did nothing for me, it’s so cute on others but just not me. The “pants” are really a legging and are not substantial enough in my opinion to be worn as pants but I think anyone the sweaters and tunics are longer on in them would be just fine wearing them; again I’m old fashioned and don’t like to wear leggings as pants. Because they had stretch I tried on my top size 22 but if I was to buy them I would get my regular pant size of 24.
This peplum jacket is super cute but it’s more of a top IMO because it is not lined and I just couldn’t justify the buying because I already have a peplum jacket. If I’m being honest I like this one more than the one I already have so it’s something I would consider with my rewards bucks if it’s still in stock. I am wearing my regular size 22.
I Initially had doubts on the medallion dress because between the length, long sleeves and neckline it was a lot of fabric but I do like the fit, print, color and overall shape so I decided to purchase. It’s priced at $90 but I found a discount code for $25 on the Lane Byant site that I was able to use in store. I’ve already worn this dress and have received a lot of compliments on it.
There were several other pieces from the collection in store and I didn’t try them on because I knew they would not be items I would buy – not because they aren’t cute but they just don’t fit within my current wardrobe needs.
Overall while I had a few misses it’s a lovely collection and I’m disappointed there will be no restock on the trench. I personally do not care for body con styles that a lot of plus bloggers favor so it was so nice to see a blogger collab feature lots of feminine cuts and styles. As someone who is 5’10 I was pleased with the length of most item – I personally love the look of the sweaters on shorter ladies.
I found the fit of every single item to be true to size – which pretty much never happens so major props to the Lane Bryant team and Girl With Curves for focusing on fit. I don’t consider myself into “modest fashion” per say but I tend to avoid buying things I can’t wear to work and I’m just at a point where I don’t think my cleavage needs to be on display all the time so my favorite thing about this collection was the more modest cuts without looking dowdy or frumpy.
I hope you enjoyed the collection and were able to get the piece you wanted!
